In April 2025, Branson voters will be asked to decide whether or not to renew the 1/2-cent Transportation Sales Tax.

First approved by voters in 1991, the 1/2-cent Transportation Sales Tax has generated approximately $117 million to support transportation system improvements in Branson.

The Transportation Sales Tax generates approximately $7.5 million per year with funds going towards street resurfacing and rehabilitation, traffic flow, roadway capacity, safety and walkability projects.


Renewed for the second time in 2005, for a 20-year period, the tax passed with nearly 81% approval.

When possible, funding is leveraged with other partners, including county, state, federal government and private developers.

The 2025 proposed 1/2-cent Transportation Sales Tax would be a continuation with no additional cost to taxpayers. A significant portion of the revenue generated comes from visitors to the region.

Maintenance of City Streets & Infrastructure was voted at the top priority in the 2021, 2018, 2016, 2015, & 2012 Community Survey. the #2 priority in all five surveys was traffic flow on City streets.

Transportation Tax Projects

1. Shepherd of the Hills Expressway

Improved roadway with Mill and Overlay project and increased visibility with a newly stripped ADA crosswalk. 11 lane miles completed.

2. Roark Valley Road

Improved roadway with striping project to enhance lane markings to improve visibility and safety. 8 lane miles completed.

3 Bee Creek Road & Buccaneer Boulevard

Improved roadway with Mill and Overlay project for a smoother, longer-lasting surface. 2 lane miles completed.

4. Gretna Road

Improved roadway with fresh surface treatment and updated striping for improved safety. 4 lane miles completed.

5. Branson Hills Parkway

Improved Roadway with fresh surface treatment and updated striping for improved safety. 3 lane miles completed.

6. Green Mountain Drive

Improved roadway with fresh surface treatment and updated striping for improved safety. 4 lane miles completed.

Major Street Resurfacing and Rehabilitation

This ongoing annual program focuses on maintaining or enhancing local streets, resurfacing the main thoroughfare system, and upgrading residential streets to collector standards, including necessary stormwater management and sidewalks.

Traffic Flow and Safety

Enhancements to traffic management services, including upgraded signal systems, to ensure smoother and safer travel.

Walkability

Infrastructure initiatives aimed at enhancing the connectivity of sidewalks and transit routes will promote complete streets and boost accessibility in accordance with the ADA transition plan.

Bridge Repair & Replacement

Bridge repair and replacement projects at various locations in the city.

Street Maintenance

Continued maintenance of public streets which includes street sweeping, irrigation system maintenance and repair, right of way maintenance, street light/traffic signal maintenance and repair as well as winter weather response.
