Dear Branson Community,
In this Easter season for many of you, I see the opportunity to stop and seek the peace that passes all understanding so that you and all those you care about may rejoice with each other as family and friends.
Next week, Tuesday, April 6, is the date of our local elections. President Abraham Lincoln once said, "The best way to predict the future is to create it." Voting is a strong act that helps create the future you envision. The City of Branson needs you to engage in the process of leading this city by voting for the officials who will represent you in the governmental structure of the city and vote on your behalf regarding city business. You will be voting for three Aldermen (one in each Ward) and the Mayor. You will also vote on the continuation of the tourism tax originally approved by you in 1997. The Tourism Tax provides the funds needed to maintain critical public infrastructure. The Tourism Tax shifts costs related to infrastructure maintenance and improvements from residents onto tourists. This is why it is called "tourism tax" since it is paid for by tourist activities.
Interesting Factoid of the Week: 109 years ago this week, the city of Branson was formally incorporated.
Thank you to those who continue to pray for our city. Please stay positive and be thankful for living in the best city in America.
Thank you for letting me serve you,
Mayor Edd Akers
